I was 5 weeks post-partum and my mother-in-law came to visit and suggested Cody and I take a date night and she could babysit while we got away for a few hours. I was so excited for the time for just me and my husband - I think the last time we had that was for my birthday 2 months before! I also was excited to have a good reason to do full hair and makeup and put on a cute outfit too since I had been mostly living in yoga pants since Teddy's birth!
After sufficiently beating and contouring my face, teasing and curling my hair, I headed to the closet and threw on my pre-pregnancy jeans. Well, I tried to throw them on. I jumped and wiggled them over my hips, sucked in, and buttoned them. And then I realized how uncomfortable I was. I started to panic. What was I going to wear? Cody came in, saw what was happening, and then said "just put on your maternity jeans and lets go!"
Wait, what? I thought those were only for people with child? "Give yourself a break, you JUST had a baby." So I did - I gave myself a break and threw on (with ease) my maternity jeans and had a great date night with my husband.
Mommies - be KIND to yourself. You created a person in your body, and things won't "bounce back" fast sometimes. It takes a lot of time and work, and sometimes even that will not give you the body you had before, and THAT IS OK.
In the meantime, enjoy those maternity pants! I know I am until I can fit into my pre-pregnancy pants, and these two pairs are my favorites!
